Mobile Ringtones

Friday, May 25th, 2007

In the beginning the humble mobile phone rang just like a wired telephone. As the technology evolved every new phone had great new features and one of them was that you could customise the various tones on your handset. Everyone thought it was pretty cool when their phone had 10 to 15 different ringtones to choose from. Everyone has been wanting more than those 10 or 15 tones to choose from and the Technology and Craze started in Europe in 2001. Now, every single mobile phone sold has the ability to download ringtones or any other sound to become your ringtone.

Just a few days ago on the bus on my way home from work there had to be at least 10 telephones ring. Every single one of them was different and I can tell you that not one of them sounded like a “ring ring” tone!

Every new telephone that comes along has even more features - and more Ringtones. We all see the ads on TV wanting us to SMS some code and get a new ringtone but lets face it, who wants the crazy frog these days - it is just so last Year! Forget TV, they only show you 2 or 3 different tones and when you can have literally any sound, song or tune for your ringtone.

Nearly Telephone handset uses different formats for their ringtones so you need to ensure you download a compatable tune for your handset. Nokia ringtones are different to sony ericsson ringtones - even if they are the same tune. Getting online and searching the 1000’s of available artists, tunes and tones will take longer than downloading it to your phone!

So, next time you are on the bus, listen to all the different tunes and if you have downloaded your own ringtone it is not very likely that any of those ringing phones will sound like yours.

Samsung U100

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Way back in 1950 when Byung-Chul Lee founded the Samsung Trading Company in Seoul You can bet that he had no idea as to what the future held. You can guarantee that he had never even conceived the idea that such a device as a mobile telephone would exist. Even at the end of his life in 1987 the mobile phone was only just coming into existance and it was the big Radio Manufacturers who had the know-how to turn their 2-way Radios into A portable Telephone device.

With the Founder bowing out, The company he started at the time the world started to embrace Mobile Telephone Technology had only been in the electronics industry for about 5 years or so. Samsung really is a bit of a latecomer to the World market and it was in the 90’s the company went thru several changes. Samsung as a corporation made their mark (and still does) as the largest Memory chip manufacturer in the world.

With their knowledge of Computer memory chips during the first few years of the 21st Century one of the Areas that they moved into was the mobile phone handset market. In terms of the Mobile phone market they are a bit of a “johnny come lately” but don’t let that fool you. Their Latest Mobile handset, the Samsung U100 is every bit as feature-packed and even better than the phones offered by some of the more traditional mobile phone manufacturers.

From a trading company in what was an emerging 3rd world country to a global Manufacturing group in a bit over 50 years we can not even begin to guess the things yet to be invented that they will be manufacturing 50 years from now.

Motorizr Z8

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

I can remember my very first mobile phone - it was about the size of 2 bricks and weighed nearly 2kg! If you were in a major city, and the antenna was up high and in the clear you could make and receive a telephone call. Sure, this was way back in 1990 - but look how things have changed.

Now, nobody would consider carrying aroung something so large or something that could only make a voice call with. Every phone these days can do so much more. Just look at the Motorola Z8 phone for example. It is a 2 Megapixel Digital Camera, a PDA, has a 16million Colour Display, 90Meg internal Memory that is expandable, Web Browsing, 3G and mobile Broadband, MP3 palyer and Bluetooth capable. Not only that but you can of course send a text message and one of the other features in there somewhere is the ability for you to make a voice call! Who would have thought that with all of the latest and greatest that this phone has to offer that you can still actually use it as a telephone!

The Motorizr as it is also known is a far cry from my “2 bricks” phone of 1990, and it costs far less than my first phone ever did. I am actually pretty amazed that modern phones still have the ability to offer telephone calls with everything else that they can do!

If the Z8 is not your thing then you can find all of the latest mobile phones and providers in the UK.
